Advertising and Your Data

Last updated: September 18, 2026

This page explains how MaxBooks uses advertising and measurement tools, and what information those tools share. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and adds detail to it. Where the two overlap, read them together.

Who we advertise with

We advertise our audiobooks on third party platforms and we use the measurement tools those platforms provide so that we can tell whether our advertising is working. The most significant of these is Meta Platforms, Inc., which operates Facebook and Instagram. Because this involves sharing information about you with Meta, we describe it in full below.

What the tools do

Our website uses the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code that runs in your browser, together with the Meta Conversions API, which sends equivalent information directly from our servers. Between them they tell Meta when you take certain actions on our site. Those actions currently include viewing a product page, adding an audiobook to your cart, starting checkout and completing a purchase.

What we share with Meta

Along with the action you took and its value, we may share identifiers that allow Meta to match that action to a Meta account. These may include your email address, telephone number, first and last name, city, state or region, postal code, country, IP address, browser and device identifiers, and identifiers stored in cookies that Meta sets.

Where this information is sent through the Conversions API it is hashed before it leaves our systems, which means it is converted into an irreversible string of characters, and Meta uses it only to attempt a match against its own records.

We never share payment card numbers, bank details or passwords with Meta or with any other advertising partner.

Why we share it

  • To measure how our advertising performs, including which advertisements lead to purchases.
  • To avoid showing you advertising for an audiobook you have already bought.
  • To help Meta show our advertising to other people who are likely to be interested in our books.

How Meta uses it

Once shared, Meta processes this information under its own terms and for its own purposes as well as ours. You can read how Meta handles it in Meta's Privacy Policy at facebook.com/privacy/policy and in Meta's explanation of its business tools at facebook.com/privacy/policies/business_tools.

Your choices

  • Browser controls. You can remove or block cookies through your browser settings.
  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a GPC signal we treat it as a valid request to opt out of sharing and targeted advertising, and we will stop sharing your information with Meta for advertising purposes on that browser or device.
  • Do not sell or share my personal information. If you live in a state that offers this right, you can use the opt-out link in the footer of our site.
  • Meta's own controls. You can review and change the advertising Meta shows you at facebook.com/adpreferences, and you can review and disconnect the activity businesses have shared with Meta about you at facebook.com/off_facebook_activity.
  • Contact us. You can ask us directly to stop sharing your information for advertising purposes, using the contact details below.

How this fits the law

Under the privacy laws of California and certain other states, the activity described on this page may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross context behavioural advertising. Meta is one of the “business and marketing partners” referred to in our Privacy Policy, and the rights described there apply to it.

We use comparable advertising and measurement tools from other platforms from time to time. Where we do, everything described above applies to them in the same way.
